"You ready for a band so uncategorizable that I can’t even tell you who they sound like? They are not like any female fronted band I’ve seen on the scene here in LA. What wowed me is they have the perfect balance of musical theatre-esqe vocal power, and perfectly crafted complimentary alt-rock instrumentals."
Formed in 2010 by Emily Dykes, Brandon Miller, and Matthew "P- Touch" Scoggins, we soon entered the studio to work on our first album. It would be an incredibly rewarding process, despite some tragic circumstances.
We were very fortunate to have Miller’s uncle, Rudy Guess, as a collaborator. Guess was Carole King’s long-time guitarist, producer, and musical director, and an inspiration to us with his consummate musicality, production expertise, and unfailingly positive outlook. Tragically,
Guess lost his four-year battle with cancer in late 2010 while we were working on the record. With Guess’s illness as a strong undercurrent in our formative days, the album’s opening song, “The One I’ve Won”, was written from the point of view of Guess’s wife, and “Carve it Out” was inspired by his incredible spirit. Guess played guitar on both of those songs, as well as several others; it was the last work he appeared on before he passed away.
Since then No Way North has added three more members: Celina Dean (background vocals), Steve Fisher (guitar), and Eyal Dahan (drums). Together, this group of six has been performing in the Los Angeles, CA area, and we plan to release an EP with brand new songs in early 2014.
