TRIPOD - THE TUNES MEAN EVERYTHING!

TRIPOD - THE TUNES MEAN EVERYTHING!

Some press releases claim that the band or album about to be unleashed is the biggest,
most groundbreaking and hyped in living memory. “This genre-busting band has reinvented
rock, and cannot be compared to anything you’ve heard in your entire life!” or “This album
will change the way you perceive music forever!”, you know? This is not where Norway’s
Tripod is at. They don’t need to turn the world upside down or mix Peruvian free jazz and
futuristic scramrock into their tunes. Their tunes. That’s the keyword for Tripod. No
pretentious and meaningless nonsense or frantic trend jumping, and zero interest in trying to
be something they’re not. Good tunes, on the other hand…

Let’s rewind quickly: Tripod was formed in 2002, and released the debut album “Nevermind
This Black Album” in 2008. The title says almost everything you need to know about the
band’s influences, yet they managed to deliver their stoner-inspired metal combined with
solid doses of classic grunge rock with such honest authenticity that they emerged as a
genuine and true heir to the giants that came before them, and not just a pale pastiche.
The sophomore album, “Four Coins” (2012), was produced by none other than Beau
Hill (Ratt, Europe, Alice Cooper ao.). The band had now gained international attention and
the subsequent tour took them to China among other places. In 2014 they released their
third album, “Devil Feeder”, recorded in the Czech Republic, with string players from the
Prague Philharmonic Orchestra helping to elevate the band’s sound, but still true to the
band’s roots in grunge and metal. By now the band had built a loyal fan base, not least live,
but after just a few shows in the wake of this album, Tripod went silent. For a long time.

Then, in 2020, during a fishing trip, bassist Espen Bjørnholt and drummer Åge Solheim
decided it would be fun to write some tunes again. Vocalist Knut Arne Lillestøl and guitarist
Stein-Inge Øien got involved, and suddenly it became clear that Tripod was back. But
instead of standing on the highest mountain with a megaphone, screaming about their
“comeback”, they took the opportunity during lockdown to write more songs. And then some
more. In the end, they had close to 40 songs, and were happy with enough of these that they
considered making a double album. But this is Tripod, not Led Zeppelin.
So they decided to prioritize the highest possible quality, and initiated what they
describe as a nice process getting rid of excess material. A few solid rounds of voting via
excel sheets ensured that the entire band could stand behind the 12 tunes left standing.
The recording itself had a feeling of freedom to it, as they had their own studio and
did everything themselves, meaning that there were no deadlines to bother them. To make
the process even more familiar, the album is mixed by Jørgen Sporsheim, who became
Tripod’s second guitarist on the album “Devil Feeder”, where he also sat behind the controls
in the studio. This gave them time to make sure these songs were the best they could be. To
add harmonies or other fun stuff along the way. To nerd out, try, test, fail, try again and end
up with an album that feels like a homecoming for Tripod. And that album is titled “Black
Smoke”.

The band is now looking forward to getting back on the stage, and playing as many
of the new songs as possible live. The four, who have since become five, with the addition of
guitarist Anders Lillestøl, couldn’t care less about being “relevant”, but have delivered an
album they would have liked to listen to themselves. And if you like catchy, solid and honest
tunes with riffs and choruses at the helm, you will want to give “Black Smoke” a spin as well!

The album will be released 4. october 2025,but the 1.single from the album was released
18.July.The song is called "Little Lies"Check it out now!
